Climate Change

At COP28 in December 2023, the first Global Stocktake was held to review progress on the Paris Agreement, with countries agreeing to transition away from fossil fuels for the first time. To achieve the 1.5°C goal, the GHG emissions must peak by 2025 and countries are required to reduce emissions for all gases and all sectors, triple renewable energy generation capacity, and double energy efficiency. Every country was required to update its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) by 2035. In response to this, Japan needs to strengthen its domestic measures and advance international efforts such as expanding JCM partner countries in order to realize a decarbonized society.

The OECC will further promote planning, institutional development, and project formation for climate change measures, working with our partner countries.
