Strong support for intergovernmental meetings to promote International Collaboration and Cooperation

Discussions at intergovernmental meetings in the environmental field cover a wide range of topics including climate change, biodiversity, air pollution, waste management and plastic pollution. The outcome documents, such as the joint statements of ministerial meetings, serve as the base and guide for Japan’s international collaboration and cooperation.

Roles of the OECC

Preparation and careful coordination with the relevant parties are critical to the success of intergovernmental meetings. The OECC has comprehensive capabilities to handle a wide range of hosting tasks, from venue setup and coordination as a focal point for Japan, to preparation of meeting materials and summarizing key discussion points after meetings. Our arrangement capabilities, leveraging our experience in supporting hosting numerous intergovernmental meetings, help to ensure that meetings run smoothly.

Support for Hosting Tripartite Environment Ministers Meeting

At the Tripartite Environment Ministers Meeting (TEMM), coordinating activities and discussions were undertaken at the preparatory meetings such as a secretariat-level meeting and a director-general level meeting with the aim of adopting a joint communiqué at the plenary meeting attended by the environment ministers of the three countries: China, Japan, and Korea. Since 2018, the OECC has been supporting the Japanese government by coordinating with the Chinese and Korean governments from the preparatory meeting stage, assisting with the preparation of documents including the Joint Communiqué and accompanying the Japanese delegation to the meetings.

Supports for Bilateral Policy Dialogue

As part of its efforts towards strengthening environmental cooperation for developing countries facing environmental challenges, the Ministry of the Environment, Japan engages on bilateral environmental policy dialogues between high-level policy makers such as ministers and parliamentary vice-ministers. In order to hold smooth environmental policy dialogues, the OECC supports with meeting logistics and compiling meeting minutes.
