Support with Hosting Environment Week

We support hosting sophisticated international events such as policy dialogues, seminars for companies and exhibitions.

The Environment Week has been held annually with partner countries since 2019 – both on site and online – as part of the Ministry of the Environment’s international environmental initiatives. The Environment Week integrates a comprehensive range of environmental events, including for example, an environmental policy dialogue where high-level attendees exchange opinions and an environmental technology exhibition where companies from both Japan and partner countries showcase exhibits. Other events include environmental technology seminars and business matching between exhibitors, partner national governments, local governments, and companies.

Roles of the OECC

As the secretariat of the Environment Week, the OECC provides comprehensive support for planning, public relations and operations. This includes support for holding policy dialogues that require close cooperation with officials of local government, selection and setup of effective venues, coordination with various seminar organizers, exhibiting and supporting companies, recruitment of local participants and building event websites.

Our Business

Support for Environmental Policy Dialogues

Thus far, Environment Week has been held in Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and India. For every Environment Week, an Environmental Policy Dialogue has been held to exchange opinions on international environmental cooperation between Japan and the partner country. The OECC provides overall support from preparation to implementation of the event and keeping meeting minutes.

Hosting of Technology Exhibitions to Introduce Environmental Technology Companies from Japan and Abroad

At each venue, we set up exhibition booths to introduce technologies and initiatives from private companies and organizations in Japan and partner countries that offer environmental solutions, helping to create business opportunities between exhibitors and visitors.

Business Matching Support

During the Environment Week, we provide support for business matching between Japanese companies, local governments and companies in partner countries. At the first Japan-Vietnam Environment Week in 2019, a Japanese company that is engaged in a Waste-to-Energy business and a local company operating a recycling business in Vietnam were matched, leading to the construction of a waste power generation plant in Vietnam. The inauguration ceremony of the project was broadcasted at the 2nd Japan-Vietnam Environment Week in December 2021.

Seminars Including a Variety of Environmental Technology Information

During Environment Week, keynote speeches and panel discussions on environmental issues and solutions are presented, including building a decarbonized society. Seminars focusing on various issues are held, inviting relevant public and private parties to discuss technologies and the cooperation role of Japan and partner countries in solving the issues.
To ensure the smooth operation of the seminars during Environment Week, we provide overall support for hosting the seminars, including preparation for the event, inviting speakers to take the stage and drawing in attendees. Our support also covers setting up the venue on the day of the event, running the event, assisting speakers, and hosting hybrid seminars online.

Holding Online Exhibitions to Connect Japan and Local Areas

In FY2021 and FY2022, the Environment Week was held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. From 2023, the event has mainly been held at a local venue, but is run in a hybrid format, coupled with an online environment technology exhibition which is held simultaneously. Japanese companies can exhibit at the online exhibition without leaving Japan whilst overseas local governments and companies can have the opportunity to learn about Japanese environmental technologies without leaving their hometown, making it possible to match up businesses on a wider scale than ever before.
