Biodiversity
In December 2022, the “Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework” was adopted at the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) held in Montreal, Canada. This framework sets global biodiversity goals for 2030 and 2050, aiming to halt the decline of biodiversity and to take urgent action to restore it. Regarding information on genetic resources, it was determined to promote international access and fair and equitable sharing of benefits by 2030.
The OECC will work with the Japanese government to summarize the efforts of governments and companies and support international negotiations to ensure fair distribution of the benefits obtained from the information on genetic resources. We will also seek to minimize the negative impacts of climate change on the biodiversity and to find solutions to climate change through Nature-based Solutions.
